OINP point system
The OINP scoring system varies based on its different streams, and Ontario ranks EOI profiles based on various human capital factors decided by the province. Candidates are given points for the skill level of their job offer and their Canadian work experience. Along with that, their account wage, education, official language ability, and the region of study or work is also taken into account while calculating points. The province also allocates 10 points at its discretion to respond to labour market needs.
Provincial Nominee Program of Ontario
The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program officially called the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program or OINP started in February 2009. It selects immigrants who are eligible under three categories: Human Capital Category, Employer Job Offer Category, and Business Category.
The Human Capital Category is further divided into subcategories as skilled workers, French-speaking skilled workers and tradespersons. It also includes the international graduates who graduated from an Ontario university with a Master’s or Ph.D. degree. No job offer is required to apply through this category.
The Employer Job Offer Category is for candidates who have an eligible job offer in Ontario from an employer who is willing to nominate them. It is further divided into the Foreign Worker stream, International Students stream, and In-demand Skills stream.
The candidates selected in the latest OINP draw were from Human Capital Category: International Graduates sub-stream and Employer Job Offer Category – Foreign Worker and International Students stream.
The eligible candidates submit their profiles in the EOI pool where Ontario ranks them based on given points. Selected candidates are invited to apply through OINP draws held regularly. Successful candidates then receive a provincial nomination which can be used to apply for permanent residence.
