Alberta conducted its latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on March 22. The PNP system of Alberta is known as Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The province invited 350 Express Entry stream applicants to apply for a provincial nomination in this PNP draw. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement was 325 in this year’s first draw.
The AAIP reviews the Express Entry pool candidates’ profiles on a regular basis. The AAIP holds draws to select high-ranking candidates based on their information and invites them to submit a comprehensive application within two weeks of receiving the NOI. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of Alberta helps in expediting the process of obtaining an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada.
Express Entry Stream of AAIP
The Express Entry Stream allows Alberta to choose qualified candidates for permanent residency from the federal Express Entry pool. They must have a profile in one of Express Entry’s three Federal Economic Immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).
The CRS score, which is based on many human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, and so on, is used to rank a candidate’s profile. IRCC’s regular Express Entry draws invite the highest-scoring candidate from that pool to apply for permanent residence.
The Provincial Nominee Program, or PNP, selects a candidate from the Express Entry pool who expresses a desire to work and live in a specific province (in this case, Alberta). After receiving an NOI, the candidate is needed to submit the entire application within a specified period of time.
The provincial program, AAIP, nominates an eligible applicant based on their application and profile, and issues a Provincial Nomination certification to them. Their Express Entry profile will gain 600 points as a result of this nomination. These additional points strengthen the candidate’s profile and elevate it in the pool, boosting the candidate’s chances of being invited to the next PNP draw.
The following occupations have a high volume of Alberta Express Entry applications:
- Food service supervisors (NOC 6311)
- Early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214)
- Administrative assistants (NOC 1241)
- Retail sales supervisors (NOC 6211)
- Cooks (NOC 6322)
- Administrative officers (NOC 1221)
- Restaurant and food service managers (NOC 0631)
- Accounting technicians and bookkeepers (1311)
- Transport truck drivers(NOC 7511)
- Retail and wholesale trade managers (NOC 0621)
Eligibility requirements
A candidate must meet the basic requirements of the Provincial Nominee Program in order to get an NOI from the Alberta PNP draw. The main conditions would be to have an active Express Entry profile, a primary occupation that promotes Alberta’s economic development and diversification, a shown desire to permanently move to Alberta, and a minimum CRS score of 300 points. To increase their chances of receiving an NOI, a candidate must also have a job offer in Alberta, a graduation certificate from a Canadian post-secondary institution, a parent, child, brother, or sister who is a permanent resident of Alberta, or a Canadian citizen living in Alberta, and fluency in the French language.
